with Melanie Champion, a physical education teacher South Brunswick Middle School, Southport, N.C.
The 2001 NASPE National Middle School Physical Educator of The Year

This video shares activities designed to help: Teach students responsible personal and social behavior in a physical setting and demonstrate understanding and respect for differences among people in a physical activity setting. Champion shares 20 different activity variations through distinctly different Critical Thinking games, each sharing the similar basic elements of trust building, communication, teamwork, self-control, and group problem solving, but each with a creatively distinct theme. Game 1: Mine Field calls for leadership and listening strategies. Game 2: Antonyms integrates English and calls for verbal communication, assertiveness, trust and cooperation. Game 3: Survivor is an entertaining and fun fitness challenge that poses both physical and mental puzzle-like problem solving tasks for each team. Game 4: The Tarp Game offers 15 different group and team challenges using an inexpensive, easy to find plastic tarp. This video will show you how to easily incorporate critical thinking activities into your program.
